What are the mage skill trees in Knight Online?
Press K for the skill window. At level 10 you pay [Grand Merchant] Kaishan in Moradon 3,000 Noah for the 1st job change and start spending points; the master quest at 60 opens the Master tree and the 60+ skills. A skill unlocks by itself the moment your points in that tree reach its requirement.
| Tree | What it's for | Top skills |
|---|---|---|
| Fire | Highest base damage, AoE skills, Fire Thorn that drains HP from players | Supernova (60), Meteor Fall and Incineration (70), Vampiric Fire and Igzination (80) |
| Ice | Damage plus slows, Frozen Armor and Ice Barrier defense buffs | Frost Nova (60), Ice Storm and Prismatic (70), Freezing Distance (80) |
| Lightning | Short stuns, Light Shock blind, the Blink teleport | Static Nova (60), Light Shock (62), Chain Lightning and Stun Cloud (70), Blink (80) |
| Master | Passive damage reduction, Absolute Power, Mana Shield, Guard Summon | Minor Resist (20), Guard Summon (23) |
The in-game help spells out the stats: Magic Power raises magic attack, while Intelligence sets a mage's or priest's mana and affects magic defense.
What are the best mage skills?
Fire carries the highest base damage, ice the slows and lightning the short stuns. Base damage below is the skill's own value; the real hit depends on your MP, your staff and the target's resistance.
| Skill | Tree / points | MP | Base damage | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Supernova | Fire 60 | 400 | 1,800 + 600 over 20s | AoE explosion followed by a burn |
| Frost Nova | Ice 60 | 400 | 1,260 | AoE ice blast; targets slowed for 20s |
| Static Nova | Lightning 60 | 400 | 1,260 | AoE lightning blast with a short stun |
| Light Shock | Lightning 62 | 400 | — | Briefly blinds a player, not monsters; 3 min cooldown |
| Meteor Fall | Fire 70 | 600 | 2,100 + 600 over 20s | Flaming meteors on an area |
| Incineration | Fire 70 | 390 | 2,500 | A flaming meteor on one target |
| Ice Storm | Ice 70 | 600 | 1,470 | Ice meteors on an area, 20s slow |
| Prismatic | Ice 70 | 390 | 1,750 | An ice meteor on one target, with a slow |
| Chain Lightning | Lightning 70 | 600 | 1,470 | Lightning meteors on an area |
| Stun Cloud | Lightning 70 | 390 | 1,750 | A lightning meteor on one target, with a stun |
| Fire Staff | Fire 72 | 300 | 1,103 | Staff hit + fire damage (Ice and Light Staff also at 72) |
| Fire Armor | Fire 75 | 250 | — | Burns anyone who hits you for 2 min; uses Stone of Mage |
| Vampiric Fire | Fire 80 | 350 | 3,000 over 20s | Fire damage spread over 20s |
| Igzination | Fire 80 | 390 | 3,000 | A flaming meteor on one target, the stronger Incineration |
| Freezing Distance | Ice 80 | 350 | — | Instantly freezes a player; better odds on low HP targets, not monsters |
| Blink | Lightning 80 | 100 | — | Teleports you 20 meters forward; 50s cooldown |
Lower down there are still useful picks: at 45 points each element gets its AoE, Inferno, Blizzard and Thundercloud. Fire Thorn and Static Thorn at 54 drain HP when they hit players and use a Stone of Mage per cast. Frozen Armor, Frozen Shell and Ice Barrier at 12, 30 and 54 Ice add 60, 120 and 180 defense.
What do the mage master skills do?
| Skill | Master points | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Bright Dew | Passive: MP regen +20% when MP drops below 30% | |
| Absolute Power | 2 | Magic attack +30% for 30s; 1 min cooldown, needs the Absolute Power Scroll |
| Absoluteness | 5 | Passive: 10% less damage from all attacks |
| Matchless | 10 | Passive: 15% less damage taken |
| Mana Shield | 12 | For 40s, 15% of damage goes to mana, at 4x the mana cost |
| Instantly Magic | 15 | Cast one spell with no cooldown; 3 min cooldown |
| Minor Resist | 20 | All resistances of nearby enemies -20%, not monsters; uses Stone of Mage |
| Guard Summon | 23 | Summons a guard dragon that attacks for a while; needs Soul Contract |
Per the in-game FAQ, a level 62 master skill needs 2 Master points and a level 65 one needs 5, so a master skill's level is 60 plus its points; the 23-point Guard Summon works out as a level 83 skill. Absolute Power also needs the Absolute Power Scroll: from level 61, bring [Archmage] Drake 7 Certificates of Victory. Details: Knight Online Absolute Power quest: Archmage Drake, requirements and reward. The Soul Contract that Guard Summon uses has been sold at the Sundries shop since October 2022.
How do you unlock mage 70, 72, 75 and 80 skills?
Points alone won't do it for the 70+ element skills: you also need [Archmage] Drake's skill quest for that level. Drake stands in Linate Village (Karus) and Laiva Village (El Morad). The quests only ask for Spell Stone Powder and give no EXP or items; the reward is the skill unlock.
| Quest | Level | Spell Stone Powder | Skills unlocked |
|---|---|---|---|
| 70Lv skill | 70 | 5 | Incineration, Meteor Fall, Prismatic, Ice Storm, Stun Cloud, Chain Lightning |
| 72Lv skill | 72 | 7 | Fire Staff, Ice Staff, Light Staff |
| 75Lv skill | 75 | 10 | Fire Armor, Ice Armor, Lightning Armor |
| 80Lv skill | 80 | 15 | Vampiric Fire, Igzination, Freezing Distance, Blink |
All four add up to 37 Spell Stone Powder. You get the powder by dismantling accessories at Narki in Moradon: Knight Online Narki: where to find him and what dismantling items gives you. Every class's quest list: Level 70 and 80 skill quests.
What is the best mage stat build?
You get 3 stat points per level, 5 after level 61. By the game's formula your stats add up to 592 at level 83, before rebirth and gear bonuses. Your staff decides where they go, since staffs ask for both INT and MP:
| Staff | Level | INT | MP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dark Knight Staff | 80 | 160 | 106 |
| [Steel Lion] Staff | 80 | 160 | 106 |
| Codex Gigas | 75 | 160 | 106 |
| Elixir Staff | none | 158 | 104 |
| Salamander Staff | none | 146 | 98 |
| Elemental Staff | none | 122 | 86 |
- The most common build among players: raise INT to your staff's requirement (160 on level 80 staffs) and put every other point into MP.
- A paper mage takes that to the extreme: nothing in HP, maximum damage, but you drop in two hits. Good for farming and the back of a party.
- Players who want to last longer in PvP move part of their MP into HP; the split varies and NTTGame doesn't recommend one.
Our take: don't chase both on your first mage. Level with the INT requirement and full MP to kill fast, then use a Redistribution Item once when you hit 83 and move to PvP (Reskill and restat).
Ice mage or fire mage? Which element for farming and PvP?
Fire has the biggest base numbers (Igzination 3,000, Incineration 2,500) and AoE at every stage: Inferno at 45, Supernova at 60, Meteor Fall at 70. For pulling mobs and wiping them in one go, fire is the easy pick.
Almost every ice attack slows: Frost Nova and Ice Storm drop nearby enemies to 30% of their normal speed for 20 seconds. Freezing Distance at 80 freezes a player on the spot, with better odds the lower their HP. For catching runners and keeping melee off you in PvP, ice is the safer choice.
Lightning attacks stun briefly, Light Shock at 62 blinds a player, and Blink at 80 teleports you 20 meters forward. Blink needs 80 in Lightning, so it doesn't fit most builds.
How should a level 83 mage spend skill points?
The math for 148 points is simple: 80 in your main element (all of its 80 skills), 23 in Master, and the remaining 45 in a second element. 45 is where Inferno, Blizzard and Thundercloud unlock, so you get an AoE from the second element too. Three common setups, our take:
| Playstyle | Main element | Master | Second element |
|---|---|---|---|
| Farming and party (fire) | Fire 80 | 23 | Ice 45 (Blizzard to slow and pull) |
| PvP (ice) | Ice 80 | 23 | Fire 45 (Inferno) or Lightning 45 |
| If you want Blink | Lightning 80 | 23 | Ice 45 |
