Why does the Knight Online extract failed error appear?

You usually see it on patch night, while the launcher unpacks the files it downloaded. The most common case: two clients are open, you close one and run the launcher, but the other window is still there. The launcher can't touch the file that window uses, so it stops.

Extract failed appears when the patch runs with the game open: the launcher can't overwrite the running KnightOnline.exe. Close every Knight Online window, end any KnightOnline.exe left in Task Manager and run the launcher again.

How to fix extract failed

  1. Close every Knight Online window; if you opened several clients, close all of them.
  2. If the error stays after the windows close, open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and end KnightOnline.exe if it's still running.
  3. Run the launcher again; if there's a new version, it patches by itself.

These three steps are enough for most players. If the patch keeps stopping at the same point, the problem isn't an open file; check the two cases below.

I get extract failed with the game closed

First check for maintenance: during maintenance the servers are down and the launcher can't get updates. NTTGame usually runs maintenance at night; the August 21, 2025 one, for example, started at 02:30 Turkey time. Wait for it to end and open the launcher again.

If there's no maintenance and the error stays, reinstall the client from NTTGame's official download page. The setup wizard also asks you to close other apps before it continues; don't leave the game or launcher open while installing. If a clean install doesn't help, open a support ticket with a screenshot of the error.

Is extract failed the same as Invalid Data Tables?
