The game's own security messages belong to the same family: "Please restart KnightOnline if you are running 3rd party programs…" and "The following programs cannot be executed with the game…" mean a program that can't run alongside the game is open; "Can't run Game Security Module." means the security module couldn't start at all.

How do you fix XIGNCODE errors? The official steps

  1. Close the game, plus any macro, screen recording, FPS counter or in-game overlay software running in the background.
  2. Open the XIGNCODE folder inside the game folder and delete xmag.xem and xigncode.log. On the Turkish client the default path is C:\NTTGame\KnightOnlineEn\XIGNCODE; on Steam it's inside the game folder in your Steam library.
  3. Restart your PC and your modem.
  4. Update your antivirus and run a full scan (the first step in NTTGame's support article).
  5. If your antivirus or firewall blocks XIGNCODE, add the game folder as an exclusion. Don't switch the antivirus off.
  6. If you have virtual machine software such as VMware or VirtualBox installed, uninstall it and try again; an NTTGame GM recommended this.

XIGNCODE won't load, or loads and the game doesn't open

If the XIGNCODE window never fills up, or fills and closes without the game opening, the network is the usual cause: XIGNCODE pulls files from its own server at launch. NTTGame's 2017 XIGNCODE notice said this happens on lines where the ISP has HTTP caching enabled and told players to ask their ISP to turn it off; it also warned that dorm, office and internet cafe networks can cause it. The 2020 connection notice suggested flushing DNS or using 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4. If it opens on your phone's mobile data, your home network is the cause.

Does it run in a virtual machine, on Steam Deck or on Linux?

No. XIGNCODE won't let the game open in a virtual environment, and NTTGame's advice is to remove virtual machine software. There's no official support for Steam Deck or Linux, and players say XIGNCODE stops it from starting there. You need a regular Windows install.

What are AppSign Error and Security error?

If "AppSign Error" or "Security error" (e.g. 3A-11-17) pops up after an update and the game closes, it's the security layer again. The step players say works is checking that Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is on: Windows Security → App & browser control → Exploit protection → Data Execution Prevention set to "On by default", then restart. That's the Windows default, so it's already on unless someone changed it. If that doesn't help, reinstall the client from the official page.

Error at hooking API (ucsvc.exe)

If a box titled "ucsvc.exe — Error at hooking API" appears at launch, another program is interfering with the game or a game file has been quarantined. If everyone gets XIGNCODE errors at once

A mass XIGNCODE error isn't your PC. In 2017 NTTGame fixed XIGNCODE login errors on the server side for the Steam version, and on September 19, 2026 the Steam version got disconnects, Runtime Errors and 0xE019100B together while NTTGame's team investigated. On days like that, wait for the announcement instead of deleting files.
